From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Grade 1-A set of clever, small-sized offerings illustrated with boldly outlined minimalist drawings done in primary colors. The round, stick-figure characters are presented with green faces, yellow faces, blue hair, and green hair, and are often amusingly out of proportion. Do's and Don'ts is a balanced selection of the advisable and the ludicrous. "Do help keep the house clean/Don't vacuum up the cat." Alternating silly and serious suggestions makes the sensible advice palatable for kids. The Okay Book is a refreshingly agenda-free affirmation of individuality. "It's okay to wear two different socks...It's okay to wear glasses...It's okay to eat all the frosting off your birthday cake." Things That Make You Feel... gently reminds readers of the balance in their lives, "Good chicken soup/Bad chicken pox." This Is My Hair is straightforward and humorous: "This is my Hair in pigtails/This is my Hair with spaghetti and meatballs in it." A short, but appropriate message from the author at the end of the book states, "No matter how your hair looks, always feel good about yourself." All four titles offer reassuring and kindhearted lessons.

It's okay to buy this book
By Tony Ursillo
Yeah, that was corny, but it was too obvious. Anyway, I came across this book in one of those educational toy stores. What grabbed me was the vibrant colors and the simple, yet important values it communicates. There are two basic messages. The first is not to be biased or prejudiced against others because of superficial things that don't reflect who they are as people (like how big their house is or how they dress). The second message is that you should have the courage to be who you want to be and to express that. My son has been captivated by this book since he was only a few months old and I am looking forward to the day when he will be able to take away the important messages from it. It's comforting to have this book as a tool so that I can help my son grow up to be confident, respectful and happy. As do most parents, we have a few dozen books now. None is a substitute for "Okay." I've evaluated Todd Parr's other books online, but was less impressed and haven't bought any yet. But this one is a gem.

First Graders Really Think This Book Is Better Than Okay
By A Customer
This is a wonderful little book! My first graders love to read this book over and over. They love the bright pictures and simple drawings. The children begged to write their own okay books which we did! This is another "Good Night Moon" but for the beginning reader set. I've now gone through my fifth classroom copy!

A Simple Message for Everyone
By A Customer
I would echo the reviews that praise this book and also add that it can be a lighthearted surprise for grownups to look through too. I am a therapist - I was shopping for books, this one caught my eye, and I put it in my waiting room amongst the magazines & other books there. I can't tell you how many people I see looking at this 'okay book' when I come out to collect them for their appointments! (Then they put it down with a sheepish smile when they see that someone saw them reading it...) :-) It seems to be a whimsical and refreshing reminder for all of us in an occasionally conformity-driven society that we're good like we are. If you get it for your kid(s), enjoy it with them.

Renegade ex-U.S. soldiers, paramilitary who call themselves the People's Liberation Army, take control on August 14, 1977 of the fictitious Bartonsville Fast-Breed Reactor just 32 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. "Their threat: To destroy the plant and release a deadly radioactive cloud over Pittsburgh and much of Pennsylvania," reads the dust jacket. "Their demand: $50,000,000 and safe passage out of the United States. Their real mission: To steal one ton of weapons' grade plutonium produced by the plant and to turn it over to a black market arms cartel that would sell it to Third World nations hungry for nuclear weapons." "Drawing on expertise acquired within the Defense Establishment, exhaustive research, and information freely available from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, James N. Rowe has written a frighteningly plausible thriller. The Judas Squad reveals, in dramatic countdown plotting, the Carter Administration's grave concern for the security of U.S. nuclear power reactors. A Para-military takeover of a Nuclear Power Plant. A highly trained group of veterans, cast out by society, do what they say cannot be done. Never underestimate the military training. These men did not.

From Publishers Weekly
The heroine of this jaunty poem is no stranger to adversity: she quickly and calmly dispatches a variety of threatening figures, to the strains of Nash's vivacious comic cadences. ("She washed her hands and she straightened her hair up. / Then Isabel quietly ate the bear up.") As depicted by the ever-wacky Marshall, Isabel is rotund, bespectacled and absolutely unflappable, with a quiet grin of self-satisfaction. Her colorful wardrobe includes such incongruities as roller skates (lifted from an easily done-in witch) and Birkenstock sandals. The villains here are a hilariously horrible lot, from a toothy, neon-green witch to a hairy, one-eyed giant to a doctor whose every pore radiates untrustworthiness. Beneath its droll humor, this fine lark of a book contains a sound bit of advice for banishing terrors real and imagined: "Don't scream when the bugaboo says 'Boo!' / Just look it in the eye and say, 'Boo to you!' " Ages 4-8.
Copyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From School Library Journal
Grade 2–5—In this newly illustrated edition of the well-known poem, a young girl courageously faces a series of dangers. When threatened by a bear, "Isabel, Isabel didn't worry,/Isabel didn't scream or scurry"—instead, she eats the bear. She also consumes a witch, decapitates a giant, and defeats an evil doctor. This book lacks two stanzas that appear in the version illustrated by James Marshall (Little, Brown, 1991; o.p.), which suggest that the foes that Isabel faces are all in her dreams. There is no such consolation here. Isabel is so unflappable that readers are not sure which is more menacing, the girl or the monsters. Taylor's bright watercolor illustrations are well suited to the text. The protagonist, dressed in polka-dot shorts, sometimes looks innocent, but at other times impish. Each encounter with a formidable creature takes place in a different setting, and Isabel pilots herself around in a small airplane or a power boat, always accompanied by her dog. The illustrations are full of color and action. It's interesting to hear Nash's voice on the accompanying CD, but his reading lacks drama. The poem is likely to delight children who are comfortable with books that have a certain level of gruesome humor, such as Keith Graves's Frank Was a Monster Who Wanted to Dance (Chronicle, 1999).—Donna Cardon, Provo City Library, UT

From Booklist
Isabel, Isabel, didn’t worry, / Isabel didn’t scream or scurry. Although Nash wrote the rhyme more than 70 years ago for his daughter, Isabel, kids today will enjoy this picture-book version. The rhyme and chanting rhythm set up fairy-tale scenarios (The bear was hungry, the bear was ravenous, / The bear’s big mouth was cruel and cavernous), while neon-colored, double-page artwork shows a cute, smiling girl flying her plane and confronting scary monsters. Bears are no problem for this little girl, though: She washed her hands and she straightened her hair up / Then Isabel quietly ate the bear up. The old witch and the one-eyed giant don’t fare much better. The climax makes it perfectly clear that the giants are the grown-ups, and there’s a final, fun surprise at the very end. Accompanied by an audio CD of Nash reading the verse, this book will slide neatly onto poetry shelves and into collections of contemporary fractured fairy tales. Preschool-Grade 2. --Hazel Rochman

The Adventures of Isabel

My son is 4 and loves this book! We have read it every night this week, at his request. It is a wonderful book for learning new words (cavernous, scurry). It taps into my son's sense of the absurd. The theme of a child conquering big, scary things is very age appropriate. I highly recommend this book!

Head severing and homicide??
By Sarah L. Larson
This book was horrible. I was only moderately bothered by the poor word choices for rhymes, but when I was reading to my 3 and 4 year olds about head severing and an exploitive doctor Isabel killed, I could hardly continue. Hoping to avoid nightmares and looking forward to getting this one out of our house.

From School Library Journal
Grade 6-8–They're back! The rich, designer name-dropping, thoroughly conceited and obnoxious seventh-grade girls of Octavian Country Day School in Westchester, NY, return to compete against one another for who'll be the reigning queen of the school's "in crowd." Super-wealthy, super-indulged Alicia Rivera switches ballot boxes in the vote for a school uniform so that she wins instead of super-wealthy, super-indulged Massie Block. Readers will battle through their annoyance with and desire to choke these two girls, for the believability and humanity found in Claire and Kristen keep the story line moving. Massie and Alicia make mistakes, everyone interferes in the others' lives and loves, and all of the characters learn about their own limitations. But this is not for every collection; not-so-wealthy urban teens might prefer stories by Jacqueline Woodson, and country teens might rather read Audrey Couloumbis's tales of growing and learning without the trappings of flaunted wealth.–Alice DiNizo, Plainfield Public Schools, NJ

Watch Your Back, 'The Clique' Is Coming
By Erika Sorocco
Massie Block, the leader of The Clique, is furious when she hears about Alicia's plans to form her own clique. After all, she's the leader, and that's how it should stay. Besides, doesn't Alicia realize that messing with Massie will do nothing more than leave her in one very undesired place - The Reject Pile? As for new-girl turned It-girl Claire Lyons, she's finally in. Not only is she a coveted member of the Clique, but she's also got Cam, a Briarwood boy, showering her with affection. But will Massie be willing to keep Claire in her inner circle, or dump her like last season's Sevens? Kristen Gregory, she's in the middle of two cliques, and her friendship is now more coveted than the new Louis Vuitton bag. The question is, whom will she choose? Dylan Marvil, she knows that Massie is up to something bad. Real bad. What it is, she has no idea. She might not stick around to find out. But if she leaves the Clique to join Alicia's new clique, will Massie replace her with a Dylan clone? Then there's Alicia Rivera. She may have credit cards and clothes galore. But does she truly have what it takes to be the leader of a clique?

I will be the first to admit that THE CLIQUE has become one of my biggest guilty pleasure reads. The characters are enjoyable vicious, stuck-up, and rich, with the chauffeur's, credit cards, and clothes to prove it. Their many rude confrontations with each other couldn't be more exciting to read about, and the amount of name-dropping they do will keep any celebrity monger on their toes. Lisi Harrison has struck gold with this series, and it only keeps getting better and better. If you're looking for something reminiscent of GOSSIP GIRL, check out THE CLIQUE. I dare you.

I love the Clique!
By A Customer
First of all let me say that I absolutely love these books . . . Second of all they are highly unrealistic. I am the exact same age as Massie, Claire, and the rest of the gang, and I happen to live in Westchester, in the richest neighborhood in it, and I certainly don't wear Marc Jacobs pumps, carry a Louis Vuitton bag, or drive in a fridge-, tv-, and minibar-equipped Range Rover to school every day. I don't have credit cards or an unlimited clothes allowance, and I definitely don't have a five-acre estate to live on. It's also unrealistic how popular 7th graders are . . . I mean do 7th grade girls, no matter HOW hot they are, really think they can date superpopular 11th graders (Harris)? And how EVERYBODY in Westchester County knows Massie? Come on.

However, I love reading these books!

*Spoiler Alert* Do not read on if you haven't read the books.

This one is probably my favorite, as Claire is finally IN and she gets Cam at last! Massie is finally nice and they finally take revenge on Alicia for cheating (not a great thing to do to your BFFS).

The cattiness of the girls is what makes these books good. Even though Gossip Girl is not a book for 12-13 year olds, I have read 2 of them and like the Cliques infinitely better--for my age at least. The Cliques are essentially Gossip Girl - sex - drinking - drugs = great!

This book was amazing, I especially loved seeing Alicia knocked down a peg when Harris used her and didn't ask her out, and how Massie didn't get Cam but got Derrington, the guy Kristen and Dylan loved in the last book.

I thought the ending was kind of cheesy, but I still liked it. I don't get how the Lyonses are moving to Chicago . . . I guess I'll just have to wait for Invasion of the Boy-Snatchers.

Keep reading and loving the Clique! :)

Absolutely Fabulous for teens
By Peggy Tibbetts
This is the third book in the Clique series that revolves around the hilarious antics of the gutsy and gullible Massie Block and Alicia Rivera, who run the show at the Octavian Country Day School (OCD). In this episode, Alicia is fed up with being beta to Massie's alpha. She wants out of the Pretty Committee to start her own clique. She strikes first by switching the ballot boxes in the OCD school uniform design contest to make sure that Massie doesn't win and she does. As the so-called winner, Alicia is asked to model for Teen People magazine and also to invite a few friends to the fashion shoot, which she uses as bait to lure the unpopular girls into her clique. She soon discovers that the care and feeding of a clique is a lot harder than it looks. What with clever carpool conversation to conjure, juicy gossip to track, dirty tricks to plan, and oh so many backs to stab, Alicia has her hands full. Meanwhile Massie gets wind of the ballot box switcheroo, the photo shoot, and the new clique. She plots her revenge. What ensues is no ordinary cat fight because these girls are both ruthless AND rich. Armed with limos and credit cards, no evil mischief or expense is too over-the-top, no matter whom they trample in the process. When the fur flies, nobody's secret is safe.

A fast-paced, fun read, "Revenge of the Wannabes" is like "Absolutely Fabulous" for teens. Alicia and Massie are as outrageous and obnoxious as Patsy and Edina, which makes for non-stop, wacky comedy.

Gary Soneji, a dying prison escapee, is looking for revenge on Cross, while another insane killer is pursued by Thomas Augustine Pierce--a brilliant and relentless detective who may even be better than Cross. Amazon.com Review
That monstrous villain Gary Soneji is back in Cat & Mouse, the fourth book in James Patterson's series about Alex Cross, a police forensic psychologist, but he's not alone. In seeming support of the premise that you can never have too much of a bad thing, Patterson has thrown a second serial killer into the mix: Mr. Smith, a mysterious killer terrorizing Europe while Soneji practices his own brand of evil along the Eastern Seaboard. With two killers to track, Cross has his hands full--and Patterson has another hit.

From Library Journal
Fans of Patterson's Alex Cross series will be delighted with this latest installment. Reappearing is Christine Johnson, seen in an earlier Cross novel, Jack & Jill (LJ 8/96) and the principal at his children's school, and Cross has fallen in love with her. Gary Soneji, the creepy kidnapper and murderer from another Cross book, has broken out of jail and embarked on a new killing spree, again taunting Cross that he can't stop him. And one of his intended targets is Cross and his family. If that isn't enough, there's a new serial killer whose murders are so inhuman that the news media are suggesting that he's an alien from another planet. All story lines connect in this thriller, whose driving plot will distract you from thinking about its implausibilities and keep you turning pages to the last, when you'll find yourself impatiently awaiting the arrival of the next Cross novel. From Kirkus Reviews
Archly improbable multiple psychokiller tale featuring Patterson's dignified Washington, D.C., detective, Alex Cross (Jack and Jill, 1996, etc.). Gary Soneji, the hyperactive bad boy who escaped from prison at the end of Along Came a Spider (1993), has AIDS. Before he dies (or even suffers any of the disease's ghastly symptoms), he wants to avenge himself on Cross, who helped capture him. After creeping into the Cross family cellar and ominously rifling the laundry, Soneji, who (we learn) developed a psychotic fixation with trains when he was denied a Lionel set as a child, departs on a series of cinematic massacres along Amtrak Metroliner stops, leaving drops of Cross's blood as clues. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, another psychokiller, calling himself Mr. Smith, is literally cutting a swath through Paris and London, pursued by the fanatically methodical, ponytailed FBI profiler Thomas Pierce. Cross doggedly pursues Soneji to New York, pausing between crime scene visits to romance recently widowed school principal Christine Johnson at the Rainbow Room. Patterson's soulless, breathlessly plotted exercise in bait-and-switch manipulation reaches the first of many false climaxes beneath Grand Central terminal, where Cross apparently kills Soneji. A few pages later, the widower Cross and his family are nearly murdered by a masked man claiming to be Soneji. Enter twitchy Thomas Pierce, who must make one too many references to the Twin Peaks TV show before revealing that he and Mr. Smith might be the same man. A bulky pack of unsolved plot puzzles and ludicrous butchery, ending in a shameless cliff-hanger. Having reached the peak of his popularity, Patterson is spinning his wheels. Alex Cross has met his match!
By Amazon Customer
Alex Cross, James Patterson's returning character, is truly one today's greatest, most well developed 'hero' found in print! In Cat and Mouse, Cross's fourth book, the reader is sent on a roller coaster ride of plot twists all written in an almost groundbreaking 'change of perspective' style. Live the unfolding mystery through Alex Cross's eyes and others around him as they interact with one another in an attempt to stop the returning villian from Patterson's previous book Along Came a Spider-Gary Soneji. Or is it someone else? In this book Patterson has topped himself once again concerning the 'fleshing out' of his star Alex Cross. The interaction between the detective and those around him such as his children, mother and love interest creates a spellbinding atmosphere that is rarely achieved in today's 'suspense' books. But therein is only one of the author's strengths, the storyline is presented in a unique and captivating way, with a seemingly unbelievable twist occurring halfway through instead of at the end. Lastly, don't be misled by my harping on the merits of this book's character interaction. Its greatest asset is the mystery villian, and Alex Cross's attempts at identifying him/her. *Previous book alert* I suggest you read the first three Alex Cross books in this order:Along Came a Spider,Kiss the Girls, and Jack and Jill. (at the very least Along..) before reading Cat and Mouse.

One of the best James Patterson novels around.
By LaShaun A. Williams
Cat & Mouse was the story of Alex Cross, an African-American police officer who was working on a case of two serial killers. One was Gary Soneji--the antagonist from Patterson's previous thriller Along Came a Spider--who was hellbent on taking revenge on Cross, family included. The other was Mr. Smith, a serial killer with split personalities who performed "autopsies" on his victims while they were still alive.
This book has a good balance of scenes between Cross' personal life (his loving grandmother, his huge best friend Samson, his two beautiful children, and their teacher whom he is falling in love with) and business life.
The book is very easy to follow and goes by at a very quick pace. The characters were realistic along with the plot.
The thing that I liked most about the book was the way Patterson told the story. I actually found myself feeling sorry for the bad guys as well as the good, which usually never happens.
I would recommend this book to anyone but be sure not to make the same mistake I made. I started the book late at night before I went to bed at about 11 o'clock. It was so good that I continued to read until three in the morning, which left me sleepy and irritable the next day at work. If you are going to read this book, be sure to start it when you have at least two hours of spare time.
P.S. Please read my other reviews.

The First BAD Cross Book
By Paul M. Gunther
I've been a fan of the Alex Cross books since Kiss The Girls. I stayed up all night until five in the morning to finish that one. It is still, to this day, the only book that has kept me up all night because I had to know what was going to happen. Since then, I've devoured each new Cross book like a long lost friend.
With the exception of Cat & Mouse. This book is a complete waste of time. I don't even know where to begin in describing what is wrong with this book.
Cross fans had been patiently waiting through Kiss The Girls and Jack And Jill for the return of Gary Soneji. His presence (or lack thereof) was always in the back of the reader's mind. He was out there somewhere. Lurking. Waiting. Biding his time. Cross has lived in fear of Soneji, suspecting with every crime that Soneji might somehow be behind it. Finally, Soneji has emerged. And his reappearance is completely anti-climactic. Soneji runs around, killing his own family and innocent civilians, leading Cross on a merry chase, yet never directly challenging Cross himself. When they finally do have their final showdown, it is at the midway point through the book. After two novels of buildup, the payoff is an anti-climactic half of a novel.
The second half of the book is spent with Thomas Pierce, another FBI agent, who takes over the telling of the tale while Cross is laid up in the hospital. He's trying to uncover the identity of the person who attacked Cross, while he tracks another killer, Mr. Smith, a killer's whose identity is so painfully obvious that it might as well be printed on the back of the book. It's obvious because Patterson never, for one moment, gives you anyone else you could possibly suspect.
It is this second part of the novel that is rife with problems. Though Pierce is telling the story in first person, Patterson occassionally slips into third person. Suddenly "I did" becomes "he did." Not good. It seems indicative of the lazy manner in which the book seems to have been written.
The book is very choppy. The two criminals, Soneji and Smith, do not complement each other. They seem to be products of what I call the "Batman Syndrome". After the second Batman film, all of the film were required, as if by government regulations, to have two villains. Of course, the problem with doing this is that you rapidly run out of interesting villains. After Kiss The Girls, in which Cross ran up against two villains, Patterson seemed to decide that this was necessary for all of his books. But while the two villains in Kiss The Girls worked because they were actually working together, the two villains in Cat & Mouse have absolutely nothing to do with each other, and the result seems to be a novel with two subplots and no main plot.
After such an intensive buildup for the confrontation between Cross and Soneji, this book is a giant letdown. There is an interesting story somewhere with Thomas Pierce, but it's never fully developed, and ultimately falls flat on its face. I recommend this book only for die hard Alex Cross fans. Otherwise, stay away.

Unforgettable!
By Nian Blanchard
I actually picked up Men Against the Sea expecting a mundane but entertaining sea story. It started off innocently enough until the unlucky crew was sentenced to their watery fate. Then the book suddenly plunged into turbo mode. Now, for an authour to write such a long book about the adventures of 18 men on one small boat and not skip a beat is remarkable.
Captain Bligh establishes his presence on the vessel with an iron grip. His leadership skills and confidence are quite extrodinary as he takes control of boat. One cannot help but feel for the crew as they struggle against all odds. Men Against the Sea is one of those stories that swipes the reader right of their comfy couch and throws them head-first into the raging ocean. The writers describe the hunger and thirst of the men so convicingly that I actually had to grab a bite myself or starve with them! The storms and squalls are believably violent and the Island natives frightfully savage.
It is really a great adventure story. The book manages to surpass its predecessor, Mutiny on the Bounty, by leaps and bounds. From rationing food barely sufficient for one man amongst 18 hungry seamen, too eating raw fish, the crew, lead by their relentless captain, are determined to survive. You will no doubt find yourself cheering at their victories and subsequently mourning their defeats.
What makes the read even more enjoyable is the realization that it is basically a true story. Man against Nature! Trully a book not easily forgotten. It has been 4 years since I read the book and it is still imprinted in by mind.
Read it for yourself. Such books makes being an avid reader so much fun!

A Tightly Written & Exciting Sea Story
By James Paris
It was a hot summer day, and I was in the mood for a sea story. I luckily picked up MEN AGAINST THE SEA and quickly became engrossed. Where the prequel, MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY, was a story of a mutiny, this one was one of the best men against the elements stories ever penned. We see a very different Captain Bligh, whose temper still flares up from time to time, but who this time is successful in managing a small crew of men in an open boat over 3,000 miles from the site of the mutiny to Timor, which is today part of Indonesia.
Fletcher Christian and his mutineers allow Bligh and his loyalists no guns, three cutlasses, a small medical kit, and a pitiful store of water and victuals. Their boat must skirt all inhabited islands because they had no gifts to give to the natives -- which in the islands at that time meant that they were risking attack every time. Their water supply came from rainstorms and occasional landings for food. They had no gear for fishing. All they had to go on were Bligh's knowledge and guts.
I actually prefer this book to MUTINY and now eagerly look forward to seeing if PITCAIRN'S ISLAND, the third volume in the trilogy, is as good.

The Cleansing Influence of Adversity
By Donald Mitchell
Men Against the Sea is the fictionalized second book in the Bounty Trilogy. Mutiny on the Bounty recounts the tale of the voyage of the H.M.S. Bounty from England to Tahiti and a little way back, the mutiny, and the subsequent events that affect those of the Bounty's crew who remain on Tahiti. When last seen in that book, Captain William Bligh is cast adrift far from land in a small vessel overladen with 18 other loyal men and about 7 to 8 inches of freeboard above a flat sea. Practically speaking, their chances are slim.
Men Against the Sea begins with the mutiny and describes what happens to Captain Bligh and those he commands as they make their way eventually to the Dutch settlement of Batavia in the Dutch East Indies. Along the way, Captain Bligh and his men traverse around 3,600 miles in their fragile vessel while suffering many horrors including attacks from the native people, lack of sleep, storms, bailing for their lives, cold, thirst, too much sun, and hunger. The authors make a good decision in choosing to have the ship's surgeon serve as the narrator of this saga. This perspective made it possible for the book to include his physical descriptions of the deprivations of the Bounty's abandoned crew to help make the story more compelling. In the true spirit of a story about English tars, there is a considerable discussion of how the starvation the men experienced affected their intestinal tracts.
Captain Bligh comes across very poorly in Mutiny on the Bounty. The opposite occurs in Men Against the Sea. His leadership is one of the great accomplishments of seamanship of all time. Throughout the troubled voyage to the first landing at the Dutch settlement on Timor, Captain Bligh only lost one man. Captain Bligh also comes across as a brave, worthy, and dedicated sailor who is more than willing to share the deprivations of his men. In one stretch, he mans the tiller for 36 straight hours despite being exhausted. At the same time, even the most querulous of the crew usually keep their silence.
But the men are only human after all. Someone steals two pounds of pork. Another shipmate sent to capture birds is overcome by the need to eat them, and spoils the hunting for everyone. In their weakened state, they miss many wonderful chances for food. When they reach civilization and begin to recover from their privations, complaining quickly returns.
My test of how well written such an adventure tale is that I often felt like I was in the boat struggling with them. The main weakness of the book is that it skips many days on end, when the circumstances were at their most dire such as during unending days of storms. By doing this, the reader is denied the chance to have the full horror of the crossing bear down more strongly.
Most of the weaknesses of Mutiny on the Bounty are overcome in Men Against the Sea. So if you found that work unappealing, give this one a chance. It has many of the qualities of great survival and adventure books.
After you finish this remarkable tale, I suggest you think about the ways that adversity brings out the best in you. How can you do as well when times and circumstance are not adverse?
Squarely face the challenge, with confidence that success will follow!

By Natalie
There isn't anything that you can't learn after reading this book.It teaches you how to memorize precedents and laws if you want to be a lawyer, how to memorize names of drugs and what they do if you want to work in pharmacy, how to memorize stock symbols if you want to be a stockbroker, memorizing insurance premiums, memorizing computer codes if you work with computers, memorizing names and faces and the person's position, phone numbers and day and hour appointments if you're a sectetary, memorizing the prices for everything easily if you work in retail and so much more. This book is priceless and it's pity it's gone out of print.Buy it while you can.

Does a good job of zeroing in on the business angle of memory
By LindaT
If you read Harry Lorayne's other books on memory, you can apply it to business situations.

But I appreciated this book in that it particularly focuses on business situations in general and the memorizing of number information in particular.

Hopefully, this book will come back into print. I can see on this page that it's available from other sellers, and I would strongly suggest getting ahold of it if you feel you need it. You won't be disappointed.

One thing to remember -- these techniques require a lot of persistence, patience and sometimes plain old hard work. But it will be a good example of "working hard" so that eventually you work will be less like work! (Isn't THAT a doozy of a sentence?) :)

In other words, the effort you put in will be more than worth the effort, and will save you time and work in the long run.

The Best Part of Me: Children Talk About their Bodies in Pictures and Words, by Wendy Ewald

An award-winning photographer asked several children "What is the best part of you?", and presents their answers in this sometimes funny, sometimes moving, deeply personal book that includes striking black-and-white photographs taken by the author. Ideal for parents and teacher to use to discuss body image, self-esteem, and diversity with children.

From School Library Journal
Gr 1-3-Third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students offer personal observations about their bodies. Entries look hand lettered and face a black-and-white photo of the body part featured. Camila Villasana likes her hair-"It's wavy like the ocean." Colette Cosner likes her hands "because they turn the pages of a book slowly and magically." Andrew Legge likes his legs because they "carry me a long way." The result is insight into how the children of varied ethnicities see themselves and take pride in their heritage. The book is an outgrowth of the Literacy Through Photography program Ewald originated at Duke University. This example of a successful writing prompt might be used to encourage students to think more about their own bodies and self-images.

From Booklist
Gr. 1-3. Photographer Ewald worked with 15 ethnically diverse North Carolina school-children and their teachers to investigate how kids feel about their bodies. Each child selected a favorite body part and contributed a signed, handwritten paragraph or poem about it. Camila Villasana, who chose her hair, writes, "It comes from my Mexican heritage. Its [sic] wavy like the ocean." Ewald's tightly focused, tenderly realistic black-and-white photographs do the rest. The images mix the mundane and the poetic in equal parts and reflect the children's differences in self-esteem. The writing may not be great, but the book will work very well to inspire similar writing projects. Susan Dove Lempke

From Library Journal
Wainwright spent most of his adult life working for LIFE , and his history of the enormously influential and popular magazine reflects both his devotion to and knowledge of it. Many who write publication histories are good at why the product ultimately failed, but find it harder to put together the elements of its success. Wainwright does admirably here, not only telling knowledgeable and interesting tales about the founding and founders (and many subsequent important events and people), but also capturing what it was that made LIFE special then and so unlike today's species of carefully calculated, bloodless marketing vehicles. His book is a splendid and fitting accompaniment to the magazine's 50th anniversary. BOMC alternate. Less satisfying is the anthology titled LIFE, the First 50 Years . . . . Although it is heavily illustrated with facsimiles as well as photos, the book lacks the flavor of leafing through 50 years of actual LIFE magazines. However, if one accepts the limitations of compression, it does a solid job of providing some sense of what was going on each year in the world and the magazine. The format is simple. Each year features a few highlighted "classic photos" (some too small to have much impact), miniature reproductions of each weekly issue's cover, excerpts from a few stories and photo essays (some of these pictures stunningly reproduced), and a list of key events, movies, fads, and whatnot of the respective year. Fewer self-congratulatory historical tidbits and more samples of the magazine's best work would have improved this book, but it is still an interesting and valuable cultural document. Living and the dead
By Robin
Real Life died on December 29, 1972 but a rather artificial Life was born in October, 1978 as a monthly and struggled on for a few years until May, 2000 but Time still wanted to create Life and something was produced in the test tube of publishing in 2007: an extremely thin weekly inserted into local city papers. Unfortunately there just wasn't enough ad revenue to sustain Life and that was that though over the years, since 1972, there have been many special editions to celebrate a momentous event or personality.

Those who remember the weekly, and in its best years it was selling millions each week, will enjoy this 320 page coffee table book. The five decades are further divided into years with each getting memorable photos and reproductions of spreads from the magazine with all the covers printed as thumbnails and dated. Sidebars for each year detail the main events in the US and the world; firsts; movies; songs; stage; books and fads. Slightly annoying, I thought, was the lack of issue dates on the photo captions or the reproduced spreads. At the end of each decade there is a photo essay of memorable images with two or three large over a spread. A nice touch, over seven pages, are all the spreads from the first ninety-eight page issue in 1936.

I thought this was a fascinating book and rather better than many others published by the magazine and (rather amazingly) it can be picked up quite cheaply on many net sites.

Published in 1986
By LoisPicasso
This appears to have a compilation of covers of each of the Life magazines, printed very small, with numerous other select pages out of some of the magazines with out specific references to which magazine issues those pages were chosen from. It is some sort of reference pertaining to all of the Life magazines in publication, via the tiny small covers, beyond that, not only who, but the motives for some of the other page selections with out specific issue references are questionable. I was looking for a reference guide, so on some levels, this serves that purpose. You might want to use a magnifying glass or jewelers loupe hand held eye piece to view those issues with, then with those dates, conduct additional research on Amazon pertaining to the issue covers, tables of contents, articles. The purposes of the article, photograph areas with out the issue date references is? I think that most people have higher expectations for a book of this sort pertaining to Life magazines.

No problems with the seller. Great shipping. Product was as described. Good seller! :)

From Publishers Weekly
The second installment of the popular Kingdom Hearts video game series makes its way into print as a manga adaptation. Readers follow Roxas, an energetic young boy enjoying his last days of summer vacation, as he struggles to understand the mysterious dreams of a boy named Sora and the appearance of a group of monsters whom fans will recognize as reminiscent of the heartless of the first Kingdom Hearts. Together with his friends Hayner, Olette and Pence, Roxas soaks up the last precious moments of summer, while forces of good and evil conspire to disrupt these peaceful, lazy days. Amano faithfully translates this popular and complicated video game into a manga. The adaptation is very well done, effectively blending battle sequences and in-game fights into elements of a bigger story. New readers will be able to follow along without any complications or knowledge of the first Kingdom Hearts, although the existing fanbase may be put off or bored by the literal translation of game to manga. Awesome Buy!!!
By Anime_Arms
I am so excited to have all of the new American releases of Kingdom Hearts manga coming in! Kingdom Hearts II was excellent, going a bit beyond the two releases that were distributed here in the past. There are also some bonus color pages, and two photo-prints of the cover for the original releases of Kingdom Hearts II, Volume 1, and Volume 2. I highly recommend this purchase!

Heart or no heart
By Lex Shaffer
Kingdom Hearts is a manga/video game that take element of Final Fantasy series along with some of your favorite Disney characters. For example Mickey Mouse is the king. I know it might seem childish but the elements of Final Fantasy appalling to older people.Kingdom Hearts Two starts after the events of the first kingdom hearts. You first start out with Roxas. Roxas and his friends are relaxing as the final days of summer vacation is almost over. Then the heartless strike and with organization 13 trying to reset Sora’s past before he awakes.Kingdom Hearts Two I neverseems to slow or fast. Because of the great characters the develop in the story. The never fell left behind or pushed to the side. Even though Disney characters are in it still makes for a great story for all ages. Overall Kingdom Hearts 2 Volume 1 is an excellent read.

The Right One was Sent This Time
By futuramabuttheadman18
Love this Kingdom Hearts is my favorite video game series of all time I bought vol 1 & 2 by Tokyopop at a book fair back in 2008 but they never released the rest but then when I heard that they were being reprinted by Yen Press I knew I had to pick them up I bought 2 and 3 first because I didn't have enough and I figured the Yen Press vol 1 was just vol 1 & 2 of the Tokyopop so I bought this one and this time the right one was sent because the last time I ordered from a different seller they sent me the Tokyopop edition vol 1 but they didn't know the difference between the two so it wasn't on purpose
