For him, a best friend is someone who "will tell you funny jokes even if you blow milk out of your nose when you laugh." Best friends "will forgive you even if you step on their paw." And best friends "will keep in touch with you even if you move a million miles away." This delightful, bright book sets high (if sometimes silly) standards for friendship. Even with the exceptionally goofy lines ("Best friends will share their pizza with you even if you want to wear the pepperoni"), the point is well made: friendship is unconditional and terrifically important. Kids of all ages will enjoy the bright colors, bold lines, and unambiguous, fun message.

Kindergarten-Grade 2-In Friends, children read about both human and animal pals. The text and illustrations are equally funny: "Best friends will forgive you even if you step on their paw" faces an illustration of a yowling dog with a bandaged foot. In Zoo, "Do go to the movies with a skunk" is accompanied by a picture of a skunk in a theater with three friends. "Don't make her mad" features the malodorous skunk seated all alone. Children will laugh out loud at these tongue-in-cheek efforts. The bold colors and silly stick figures outlined in black will capture their attention and clarify the texts. The books' small size may make them difficult to share with large audiences, but consider them for more intimate storytimes.

Parr (This is My Hair, 1999, etc.) follows his first funny behavior bibles with this truly witty book on friendship. Would a really good friend criticize a new haircut, even if it looks silly? Of course not. Parr provides such litmus tests for friendship, a subject he doesn't take lightly: ``Best friends will visit you when you're sick even if you give them BIG green dots,'' and ``Best friends will let you make dinner for them even if you serve spaghetti and worms.'' He covers friends of all types, including furry ones that don't mind when their paws are accidentally stepped on. With his trademark bright drawings, Parr's book is cheerfully, deliberately formulaic, with rules that are of importance to children, and advice they love to read. How to be a Best Friend

This is a wonderful book about what a best friend is and does. Children will immediately relate and respond to the best friend how-tos, as well as, to the illustrations of bold primary colors and silly line illustrations reminiscent of a child's line drawings. Pure joy for both children and adults.

great books!

We have the underwear book and the feelings book and our 16 month old daughter loves them so we just got this one for her. She loves it as much as the others. She has maybe a hundred books already but this is one she reaches for herself over and over and we already have it memorized along with the other ones! I think it must be the bright colors and goofy drawings.
