Kenny Rogers the PHOTOGRAPHER

Kenny is well known as a singer. His photography surpasses his singing/acting. This book contains portraits of actors and singers in B&W and color photographed on 8x10" negatives giving the best results possiable. As a photographer myself, I can truly say kenny has mastered portrait lighting and is able to bring out the true person in his photos instead of a posed subject. This book should be in photography sections for the quality matches that of Ansel Adams and John Sexton. I would recommend this to anyone into photographic lighting/posing or famous actors.

Everyone knows Kenny Roger's "The Gambler" ;but this is a whole other side of his talents.

Don't be fooled into thinking that this is just a book of snapshots of and by Kenny Rogers and some of his friends in the music business;which in itself would be interesting .
This is an excellent book of excellent portrait photography taken by Rogers of 75 of the most well known and loved people from all walks of life.Whether it is the world of sports,music,actors,entertainers,etc.;you are going to find in this book portraits of famous people portrayed as well,if not better ,than you have ever seen.As an example,Elizabeth Taylor has been endlessly photographed;but when you see the portrait on the cover of this book,as you will see inside;it will literally leave you spellbound.The beauty of Elizabeth is so well captured that there is no word other than "Enchanting" to describe it.Not only will you feel that about Elizabeth's portrait;you will feel the same about every one of the other portraits in the book.
Not only is the photography in this book excellent;the paper,text color rendition and even the size is as outstanding as the photography itself.Every photograph is presented full page at 11 by 14 inches.
Some portraits are in color and some are in B & W and each is accompanied with Rogers' comments about how he approached photographing each of these famous people.One of the things that impressed me was that Rogers seems to have that uncanny ability to capture the soul of his subjects to such a degree that they look so relaxed that it would not surprise one in the least ,if the person moved or spoke,right in front of your eyes.
While viewing the photographs and reading Rogers' comments,there is going to be one thing come to mind;and that is;"I wish he had included one of my favorite people in the book.Personally,I longed to see how Rogers would have portrayed Johnny Cash,Emmy Lou Harris,Willie Nelson,Red Skelton,John Wayne,or almost any one of the famous people we have come to appreciate over the years.
In the thoughtful introduction to this book Kenny Rogers sums up that it became apparent to him, that there are three ways to photograph people: the way they see themselves,the way others see them,and the way they've never been seen before."
These photographs show that Rogers is able to include all three in his work,and that is what makes his results so special.

The people chosen for the photoes are interesting people and Roger's explanations on how he arranged and took the portraits is interesting.
